International Baseball Academy to Become a Neighbor of Gran Pacifica

December 2009 - After several months of research and negotiation, the International Baseball Academy of Central America (IBACA), supported by the Commissioner’s Office of Major League Baseball, has selected property next to Gran Pacifica as the site for their baseball training operations and tourism related businesses. Gran Pacifica was the choice over three other potential sites in Nicaragua that included Granada, Managua and San Juan del Sur. The group also considered El Salvador and Panama but found Nicaragua to be the best location. Because of the many amenities offered at Gran Pacifica, including golf, swimming, surfing, horseback riding, fishing, property rentals and more, Gran Pacifica was the final choice.

Gran Pacifica owners will benefit from increased rental demand, accelerated appreciation of investment, recreation facilities, and international recognition of the Gran Pacifica property. The principals in this venture include former Major League Baseball players Dave Stewart, Brad Lesley and Reggie Smith, as well as Roger Keeling, developer of Milagro del Mar Beach Club, Joe Ryan, an attorney from Hollywood, and Bob Oettinger, an entertainment industry executive from North Hollywood, California.

The Academy will provide an incredible opportunity for young Nicaraguan players to pursue dreams of playing Major League Baseball. In addition, the Academy will work in conjunction with the Hope and Development Foundation to place a major emphasis on education and vocational training. The goal is for each person who matriculates throughthe Academy to be prepared for a successful life, whether in professional baseball or non-baseball careers within Nicaragua.

The IBACA and Hope and Development Foundation share a major commitment to improve the lives of Nicaraguans and to lead the local community with social programs, health, education and job training. Developers hope the Academy will be a model for developing youth in all phases of life and in baseball.
